A downloadable ruleset/ritual

tired of the usual array of stats?

fascinated by the power inherent in words and names?

resentful of the way late-stage capitalism alienates work from both play and spirituality, gamifies that alienation and sells it back to us, and how that's reflected in the traditions of game design itself even when pursued with anticapitalist intentions?

want to shake shit up?

hey, me too, i made a thing about that.

i'm not taking money for it at this time, as it is my conversational response to a bunch of really smart discussions on twitter from some really smart people that i could not otherwise find the words to participate in.

special shoutouts to Ben Scerri and Caro Asercion for their work with poetic epithets and true names, respectively, which has reminded me of a magic i had forgotten since childhood.

onomancy is available in .pdf and .png business card formats, as well as a plain .txt file.

as with all things you bring to the table, be sure to have the consent of your fellow players, and preferably their cooperation, before using it in a game. especially with this, since it will break your fucking game.

this game's layout and cover were created in Canva with graphical elements licensed for free commercial use. font used is Alegreya Sans SC.

this game was created on the occupied land of the Osage, Kaw, and Očéti Šakówiŋ. this creator supports returning all lands, ceded and unceded, to the care of Indigenous people.

Hot damn but this is Cool with a capital C. You could use this to hack the most basic RPG experience into something very, very special for everyone involved

I have no words for how good Onomancy is. It will change your games. All of your games. Every game you play, if you welcome it into your heart.
